A look into our creative world.
The New Worlds Residency is a six month residency that gives a QTBIPOC playwright the space to create a new theatrical experience. The playwright is encouraged to experiment with form and content, be messy, and explore in pursuit of the story they seek to tell. With the support of dramaturgs, Shaila Schmidt and Tatiana Isabel Gil, the playwright develops their piece over the course of the six months focusing on writing and editing. The residency culminates in a week-long collaboration where the playwright has the opportunity to explore the piece with actors, and a director. Then, at the end of the week, the explorations are shared with the community in a public reading of the piece and a post show discussion.
This experience informs the playwright’s further re-writes and prepares them for a potential future fully realized production.
